Why are self-care routines important as a part of your 2024 New Year’s reset

Alright, Chicago! We're officially elbow-deep in January, that magical month where resolutions bloom like ambition-flavored confetti. New habits, heartfelt promises, and ideals you are building a new life on- but what’s behind it all? And when January ends, how can you make sure it’s sustainable, empowering, and right for your life?

We’re ready to dig into the nitty gritty of self-care as a key part of your New Year’s reset and resolutions. Ahead of our highly anticipated restorative event this month, we want to help you answer all the questions you’re asking about your year ahead, like:

What do you need to truly reset your mental health?

Why are self-care routines important?

How do you stick to your resolutions?

And what can you do about it all right now?

Let’s dive into everything self-care that you need to know—and everything we can teach you along the way!

What is self-care, actually?

Is it affirmations and lofty restorative days at the spa, like every marketing campaign seems to suggest? It can be, but it's actually much broader. Just as you might need emotional, physical, or spiritual rest, your self-care can come from many places. No matter how you slice it, it’s more than bubble baths and early nights.

Self-care is a conversation with yourself that’s committed to listening to the kinds of rest and support you need, and helping yourself to access them. It's about figuring out what your mind, body, and soul need to recharge and thrive. Anything that replenishes your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It's the yoga mat unfurled after a long day, the belly laugh shared with a friend, the nourishing meal cooked with love (or ordered from your favorite taco place, no judgment!). It's saying "no" to the things that drain you and saying "yes" to the things that make your soul sing. It’s also learning how to hear the signals your body and mind give you about those things, respecting their limits, and recognizing when you’ve breached them.

Why are self-care routines important?

The importance of routine is backed by research and mentioned often, but why does it matter for your self-care? Life throws curveballs (and sometimes whole meteor showers), and finding the time and energy to prioritize ourselves can feel like hunting for glitter in a snowstorm. Despite our best intentions and most passionate commitments, self-care can be hard to maintain when things go sideways in your life.

Learning how to prepare for and respond to the unexpected in your routine with confidence will be a key part of keeping them from becoming stop signs instead of detours along your path. There’s no one-size-fits-all guarantee to success, just as there’s no one best resolution, but consistency is a universal key to success. Your self-care routine can be your own personal navigation system, rerouting every unexpected detour you take to keep you on a path toward the self-care and confidence you choose.

Embracing a New Year Fueled by Self-Care

As we step into this new year, let’s make self-care a priority. It’s not just a buzzword; it’s a game-changer. So, join us on this journey. Let’s embrace self-nourishment, conquer those barriers, and craft routines that light up our souls. After all, investing in YOU is the best investment you can make.

During our reset and restore event, we will dive deeper into the types of self-care practices you might choose, like:

  • Physical Rejuvenation: From gentle movement to mindful eating, let's discover ways to move your body and nourish your soul.
  • Mental Recharge: Stress-busting techniques, creative outlets, and the power of saying "no" – we'll equip you with tools to quiet the inner chatter and find calm.
  • Emotional Nurturing: Building healthy boundaries, embracing self-compassion, and cultivating joy – let's create a space where your heart can thrive.

We'll also tackle the pesky barriers to self-care: that nagging inner critic, the time-crunch blues, and the fear of "selfishness." Because guess what? Taking care of yourself is not selfish, it's essential to ensure you can continue to live your life and love it along the way. Self-care starts with honoring your sense of self and responding to it through boundaries, commitments, and routines that support your well-being.
