JD is an inclusive and compassionate therapist who works with clients ranging from young adults to elders navigating the effects of trauma, grief and loss, and identity issues/exploration with a particular affinity for working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. He has extensive experience supporting clients in non-traditional relationship structures such as polyamory and consensual non-monogamy through an affirmative, kink-aware and sex positive lens.
As a member of the LGBTQ+ community himself, JD brings a personal understanding of the unique forms of trauma that can affect these individuals. This lived experience is a cornerstone of his work, allowing him to connect with clients on a deeper level. His strength-based approach is complemented by his friendly, positive, and energetic demeanor, which clients find both comforting and motivating. Before transitioning to therapy, JD worked in architecture for 15 years. This background informs his therapeutic style, where he applies logic and strategic thinking to help clients identify the sources of their issues and build new, yet tangible, healthier ways of engaging with themselves and the world.
JD received his Masters of Counseling Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and holds a Bachelors and Masters of Architecture of Illinois Institute of Technology.
Outside of his therapeutic practice, you can find JD embracing his “inner nerd” through reading and debating about Sci-Fi and fantasy books, playing board and video games and spending time with his partner and rather sassy dog.
